The ARC Registration Examination in Aromatherapy is administered two times a year, during established three-week testing periods, at computer-based testing facilities managed by Prometric.
Prometric has several hundred testing sites in the United States and Canada, as well as sites in other countries around the globe.

ARC formed in 1999 to promote the delivery of the safe and effective practice of Aromatherapy through registration of Aromatherapists. By providing a standard testing experience, it is assured that the aromatherapist has a quality level of education.
WHAT IS A
REGISTERED AROMATHERAPIST?
A Registered Aromatherapist (RA) promotes the delivery of the safe and effective practice of Aromatherapy, has met the eligibility requirements of the AromatherapyRegistration Council (ARC), and has passed the ARC Registration Examination in Aromatherapy. They are committed to continued personal and professional growth in the practice of aromatherapy, abide by the ARC Code of Ethics for Aromatherapists, and have demonstrated they possess a standard of knowledge requisite for registration. Registration assures employers, the public, and members of other professions in the assessment of them as an Aromatherapist.

The RA designation offers assurance to the public that an aromatherapist’s skills have been tested by an independent, non-commercial organization. The closed book, proctored, four-hour exam is extensive. It demonstrates an individual’s knowledge of the profession of Aromatherapy and requires proof of ongoing education through the years. I am proud to be a Registered Aromatherapist.
In addition to certification, I became a Registered Aromatherapist to add credibility to my use of essential oils and aromatherapy in conventional healthcare. Having the title of Registered Aromatherapist (RA) has opened doors for collaboration within healthcare settings in both palliative care and behavioral health. Overall, having an entity such as the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) enhances credibility and supports public safety and trust.
