Emergency housing is temporary housing for people during times of crisis. This includes people who have become homeless or for other reasons can no longer stay where they were living.

Different nonprofit organizations support the homeless. They include:

 

Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH)
CSH provides high-quality advice and development expertise to those supporting homelessness by making loans and grants to supportive housing sponsors, by strengthening the supportive housing industry, and by reforming public policy to make it easier to create and operate supportive housing.

 

National Coalition for the Homeless
The National Coalition for the Homeless has the mission to end homelessness. Their website provides links to various programs and advocacy groups supporting the needs and rights of the homeless.

 

Within the State of Hawai`i, the following nonprofit organizations provide emergency housing support:

 

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Homeless Information: Hawai`i
This HUD site contains a comprehensive look at resources for homeless persons in Hawai`i, including complete programs descriptions and contact information.

 

Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawai`i (HCDCH)
HCDCH is contracted by the State to administer several different housing programs. This website is designed to help people find out about programs and shelters across the State.

 

City and County of Honolulu
The City and County of Honolulu has this website for their Assistance to Homeless Persons programs. Visit this website for more information on getting funds to provide homeless shelters and services.

 

Hawai`i Institute for Human Services (IHS)
IHS is committed to serving people who are homeless in our community by providing the basic human needs of food, clothing, and shelter in an environment of compassion, fairness, and dignity.

 

Hawai`i Mental Health Kokua
Hawai`i Mental Health Kokua provides various services in Hawai`i through its programs, including outreach, medical and psychiatric care, case management, 24-hour residential services, social rehabilitation activities, and solutions for persons in crisis who need immediate clinical intervention and stabilization.

 

Catholic Charities
Ma'ili Land is a transitional housing program managed and operated by Catholic Charities Community and Immigrant Services. This facility has been a safe haven for hundreds of families who have found themselves homeless in Hawai`i. The facility works with families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

 

Hawai`i Psychiatric Organization, Oahu Emergency Housing
The Hawai`i Psychiatric Organization has a list of emergency and transitional housing for those in need at this resource site.
